This year Vincent from Fresk-event gave me the opportunity to illustrate a giant fresco of 3 meters by 1.5 meters so that children could color it. I loved creating fun scenes with lots of characters and animals hidden everywhere. All drawn on Illustrator, printed in the ramparts of the city and made available to visitors!

The Legend of Lady Carcas: A Princess, a Pig and a Victory!

Lady Carcas, wife of a Muslim prince of Carcassonne, according to legend, repelled the Frankish army of Charlemagne thanks to multiple stratagems.

She is said to have made a whole pig fall from the top of the ramparts, fed on the last sack of wheat, to show her enemies that the city still had plenty of food to withstand the siege. This pig is said to have been the decisive factor that made Charlemagne decide to lift the siege, as he thought that the inhabitants were not ready to give in. In reality, it was the last pig and there was nothing left to eat!

Dame Carcas then decided to ring the bells to celebrate the victory, hence the name "Carcas Sonne".
Clever, right?
